I am creating work that centers around issues of attentional disorders such as ADD and ADHD, and the medications that are being supplied so readily today to aid people as young as six years old. I created this body of work not only as a means to better understand this cultural phenomanon, but also as a means of self-help with my own personal experience of being placed on a mood-altering stimulant at a very young age. By researching and creating art that addresses this topic, I am able to better understand why people rely on pills to function as "normal" in everyday society.
In my body of work, I intuatively make decisions in the creative process that play an intracate role on what my work represents. I incorporate person data and physical pills into my art in order to gain a better understandiing of who I am as a medicated person. I painstakingly use highly detailed, almost obsessive techniques that give the viewer an intimate look into some of the side effects of these medications, and theme my different works to that of a patient’s own experiences.
